Gravity casting

Gravity casting refers to the process of injecting aluminum liquid into the mold by gravity under the action of the earth's gravity. Generalized gravity casting gravity casting is divided into: sand casting, metal mold (steel mold) casting, lost foam casting, etc. We often use narrow gravity casting to refer to metal casting. Metal mold casting is divided into vertical manual casting, inclined casting is now the most widely used metal mold (steel mold) casting. The mold is made of heat-resistant alloy steel, and the strength, size and appearance of the cast aluminum castings are higher than those of other casting processes. Gravity casting aluminum liquid is generally manually poured into the gate, relying on the weight of the metal liquid to fill the cavity, exhaust, cooling, mold opening to obtain samples, casting process and sand casting is basically the same, the process is generally: aluminum liquid smelting, pouring material filling, exhaust, cooling, mold opening, clean production, heat treatment, processing.

1. Melting of molten aluminum

The more economical and commonly used smelting method in aluminum alloy smelting is gas furnace melting. Before smelting aluminum alloy, ingredients should be carried out as required, and the burning loss of various elements in the smelting process of new charge, return charge and intermediate alloy should be considered. Gas furnace melting requirements: fast melting, short time, less suction. The order of feeding not only affects the melting efficiency and alloy consumption, but also directly affects the quality of aluminum liquid. The principle of feeding is: first small and then large, first fusible and then refractory, first less burning and then easy to burn, and finally metamorphic.

2. Pouring material filling

Pour aluminum water into the mold cavity until it fills the corners of the cavity. General gravity casting aluminum castings have a simple structure, and the mold structure is relatively simple. No sand core setting is required, and it can be completed by opening the mold left and right. However, if you encounter a complex cavity of gravity casting aluminum casting, it is necessary to set the sand core. Production of sand core should also be sand core mold production. General sand core mold and casting materials are cast iron, 45# steel or H13 steel.

3. Exhaust

The mold is designed with internal crossing, exhaust groove and overflow groove. The in-gate shall be set to ensure that the molten metal is guided to flow in only one direction to avoid eddy currents caused by mixing of various molten metal in the cavity. Exhaust groove and overflow groove in order to make the metal liquid better exhaust, improve the flow state, the metal liquid guide every corner of the cavity, in order to get a good casting surface. Dongrun casting has a supporting manufacturing gravity casting mold, and has excellent mold design capabilities.

4. Cooling

In order to prevent the casting after pouring due to cooling too fast deformation, cracks and other defects, to ensure that the casting in the sand has sufficient strength and toughness, casting in the mold should have enough cooling time. Continuous production of castings should be designed with sufficient cooling section length to ensure the cooling time of the casting.

5. Open the mold

The cooling time is thick enough to open the mold and remove the casting by hand or in some cases using a thimble on a mechanized machine.

6. Pair for liquidation

The process of removing the casting from the mold, removing the excess parts outside the body, and grinding and finishing the inner and outer surfaces of the casting. The main work includes removing the core and core aluminum, removing gates, risers, tie bars and meat, removing sand and foreign matter on the surface of the casting, shoveling and grinding protrusions such as ribs, laps and burrs, and polishing and finishing the surface of the casting.

7. Heat Treatment

Another difference between cast aluminum alloy and deformed aluminum alloy is that the wall thickness is uneven and there are complex structural shapes such as special-shaped cross sections or internal channels. In order to ensure no deformation or cracking during heat treatment, special fixtures are sometimes designed to protect them, and the temperature of quenching medium is higher than that of deformed aluminum alloy. Therefore, artificial aging is generally used to shorten the heat treatment period and improve the performance of castings.
