CNC machining center

CNC machining, referred to as CNC(Computer Numerical Control) processing, is a digital manufacturing technology. It is known for its precision, accuracy and ability to design complex products. Numerical control machining does not require manual operation, but uses a microcomputer connected to the machine tool to control the machine tool. The microcomputer forwards the G code and M code containing machining parameter instructions obtained from the CAD model to the machine tool, and removes part of the material of the workpiece through machining operations such as turning, drilling and milling.

1. Prepare a CAD model

This involves creating a 2D or 3D model of a product. AutoCAD and SolidWorks are commonly used modeling software, which will be detailed later in the article. In addition, according to the requirements of the product, two-dimensional design can also be converted into three-dimensional design. The CAD model should be properly designed to effortlessly show the operator key features such as tolerances, structural lines, threads, and other parameters for efficient machining operations.

2. Convert to CNC compatible format

The CNC machine will not understand the CAD model. Therefore, the CAD model must be converted into a CNC-compatible format so that the machine can interpret it. For this step, you can use CAM software such as AutoCAD,Fusion 360, or other online software services.

3. Set Execution

The mechanics turn the CAD files into a numerical control program called G-code. With this G-code, the machinist can set all the machining parameters of the CNC machine before the machining operation starts, including tool changes, cutting operations to create parts, and cooling of parts and tools. This process also involves selecting the right type of CNC machine tool. Choosing the right machine depends on the complexity of the workpiece, product design and cost.

4. Machining workpiece

In the manufacturing process, CNC machining tools, such as milling machines, lathes, grinders and routers, are automated and will run until the computer program considers it complete. This means that there is little need for human supervision in the manufacturing process. But in the process, the operator needs to do several levels of inspection to ensure quality.
